WHO I AM

At the age of five years old when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up my immediate response was always: “An actor, a dancer, a singer, and a waitress.” Even at five years old I had a sense of the artist’s reality. Upon the dawn of my 30th birthday, I decided that it was time I actually tried to be what I wanted to be when I grew up, and the doors to becoming a theatre teacher opened for me to embark on a terrific new adventure.

Since 2002, I have worked in the Rankin County School district as a teacher of theatre, public speaking, and English. I have had the privilege of working as the Theatre Director of Northwest Rankin High School since 2015.

Through my work as a director, I discovered my purpose in working with youth. The ephemeral nature of theatre allows for a safe space to help young people discover a place to belong and find trust in the process. Telling stories that matter has become my become my life’s work.

The journey of discovery that comes with every project makes every challenge worthwhile.

When not creating art, I am an avid consumer of it. I spend whatever time I can watching, reading, and listening to stories, attending performances, and art shows, and supporting the arts community in any way I can.
